Church Officer Nominations
We, the Nominating Committee, invite you, the Congregation, to turn in to us your name, or the name of a fellow member, to be viewed by the Nominating Committee as a possible candidate. We are looking for qualified persons to fill 3 Elders for 3 year terms and 1 youth elder for 1 year term. Please take the time to pray about who you would like to nominate, and also receive an okay from the person(s) to proceed. Deadline for nominations from the congregation is Sunday, November 11. (Though nomination are also welcome from the floor at the congregational meeting)
Qualities Sought
• Active participation in the common life and worship of Indiana Presbyterian
Church (IPC).
• Supports the work of IPC through offering of time, talents and treasures.
• Has an active prayer life.
• Has a commitment to personal growth including Bible Study.
• Has a commitment to justice.
• Demonstrates commitment to the gospel and to the mission statement
of IPC.
• Feels a sense of call to their church office in question.
Responsibilities of Elder
• Attend worship and other activities regularly; seeking opportunities
to serve.
• Assist in worship and administer Lord’s Supper.
• Appoint and supervise the work of the Session Teams. Providing administration
for: programs, employment, property, facilities and all other boards. (A list
of teams and team duties available upon request)
• Receive members into the church
• Work together to discern and interpret God’s will for Indiana
Presbyterian Church
• Nurture the congregation in spiritual growth and care.
• Encourage worship, service and mission.
• Attend monthly meetings, third Tuesday of the month for 2-3 hours.
(we are working on the length of the meeting depending on the docket)
• For one or two months a year you will serve as Elder of the month.
Provinding pastoral care when Pastor is away or off, bag Sunday morning offering,
turn off lights, turn down heat/ac, and lock up the church after Sunday worship.
Responsibilities of Deacons
• Attend worship and other activities regularly; seeking opportunities
to serve
• Assist in worship and administer Lord’s Supper
• Each Deacon will be assigned families of the church as their “Flock”
of families to pray for and encourage. This means making supportive contacts,
such as cards, notes, visits, phone calls, delivery of worship tapes etc.
as needs arise during births, deaths, illnesses, weddings, absences, etc.
showing special attention to the elderly and home bound.
• Rotation of duties such as:
1 . Serving and Preparing Communion at least two months year.
2 . Attending session meeting at least two months of the year.
• Organize and implement assistance for transportation of members.
• Assist with mission concerns and local community need of the church
such as support of Social Services, Lord’s Warehouse, and Love feast.
• Attend Deacon’s meetings on the first Tuesday of the month at
6 p.m.
Commitment questions for Elders and Deacons
1. Do you trust in Jesus Christ your Savior, acknowledge him Lord of all and
Head of the Church, ant through him believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy
Spirit?
2. Do you accept the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be, by the
Holy Spirit, the unique and authoritative witness of Jesus Christ in the Church
universal, and God’s Word to You?
3. Do you sincerely receive and adopt the essential tenets of the Reformed
faith as expressed in the confessions of our church as authentic and reliable
expositions of what Scripture leads us to believe and do, and will you be
led by those confessions as you lead the people of God?
4. Will you fulfill your office in obedience to Jesus Christ, under the authority
of Scripture, and to be continually guided by our confessions?
5. Will you be governed by our church’s polity, and will you abide by
its discipline? Will you be a friend among your colleagues in ministry, working
with them, subject to the ordering of God’s Word and Spirit?
6. Will you in your own life seek to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, love your
neighbors, and work for the reconciliation of the world?
7. Do you promise to further the peace, unity and purity of the church?
8. Will you seek to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination
and love?
9. (ELDER) Will you be a faithful elder, watching over the people, providing
for their worship, nurture, and service? Will you share in governing and discipline,
serving in governing bodies of the church, and in your ministry will you try
to show the love and justice of Jesus Christ?
10. (DEACON) Will you be a faithful deacon, teaching charity, urging concern
11. and directing the people’s help to the friendless and those in need?
